The group's healthcare journey began in the 1960s with Chandra Nursing Home, established by Dr. Chandramma D. Sagar. Her vision was carried forward by Dr. D Hemachandra Sagar and Dr. D. Premachandra Sagar, who opened a 250-bed tertiary care hospital in Bengaluru in 2002, followed by a 415-bed facility in 2009. These hospitals became some of the first large-scale, corporate-run multispecialty centers in the city.
Sagar Hospitals continues to grow through its academic extension, Dayananda Sagar University, which is developing a medical college and a 1300-bed hospital in Harohalli. The first phase opened in late 2019.
